CHOOSING THE PERFECT CLEANSER?

Cleansers are the true workhorses of
skin care. They're simply irreplaceable.

As its name indicates, a cleanser is meant to remove unwanted dead
skin cells, accumulated dirt on skin, excessive sebum and the makeup.

Proper cleansing is an essential part of a well planned skin care regimen.
However, the squeaky-clean feeling that you may be pursuing
derails from what a proper cleansing means
If you feel tight, dry, flaky after using a cleanser,
chances are that this cleanser is stripping off
essential oils and natural moisture barrier on your skin.

A good cleanser is NEVER a harsh cleanser.

No matter who you are, or how oily your skin is,
a mildest cleanser is always a better and safer choice.

BUT HOW DO WE KNOW

WHICH CLEANSER IS MILDER THAN ANOTHER ?

Without the prior knowledge of the active ingredients,
it is hard to determine how harsh a cleanser is.
However it is possible to compare the strength of cleansers
by interpreting the types of cleanser.

There are two types of cleansers
soap and soap-free cleanser.

A soap cleanser is made up of soaps
extracted from plants and animal material,
resulting in a mixture of chemicals called triglyceride.
Additives of colorants and fragrances can cause unwanted irritation.
Soaps often have few components that are extremely strong and drying.

A soap-free cleanser uses detergent as its main cleansing agent.
Detergents are derived from petroleum and some from fats and oils.
Even though it is worrisome to know that the active agent is related to petroleum,
detergents synthesized from petrochemicals are usually purer than
soaps (a mix of chemicals are added for extraction of soap), and
are much more gentle compared to soap.

Another thing about detergent is that it is known to be non-biodegradable.
However, as detergents used in skin care cleansers are regulated,
these detergents are less likely to cause pollution.

 Soap-free cleansers are usually gentler.

Cleanser is meant to be washed away immediately.
Hence, you wouldn't need those fancy ingredients,
or expect them to have significant effects on your face.
What they would bring to you is a luxurious washing experience,
and, don't forget, a higher price.

Keep your cleanser simple and cheap.

Invest those money in a decent moisturizer or essence.

Cleansing agents, whether it is soap-free or not, come in different varieties.
It is best to do researches and simple testing to find the best cleanser for you.
Once you've found your favorite cleanser, you may stick to it forever
unless you enjoy trying out different products every now and then.
Cleansers will unlikely lose their effectiveness over time.

Request for samples, or buy trial size of the cleanser,

before buying and using for a long period of time.

A lather isn't needed for proper cleansing.
Don't choose a cleanser based on the amount of lather/bubbles you can produce.

The more the lather ≠ the more the cleanliness

Deodorant soap is extremely drying.
It's ingredients are designed to be left on skin,
and dry the skin up to preclude the growth of bacteria.

Avoid deodorant soap for daily use.

If makeup is a big part of your daily regimen,
you can use a basic cleanser in the morning
and choose a slightly stronger cleanser for the night.
You can even skip cleansing in the morning if you have very dry skin.

Prepare a slightly stronger cleanser

to ascertain your makeup is completely removed.

If you experience any uncomfortable tightness, dryness or irritation,
it is likely that the cleanser you're using is not mild enough,
you're using too much amount of the cleanser,
or you're washing too frequently.

Be aware of tightness, dryness and itchy skin.

These symptoms are trying to tell you something!
